I think I'm going to unplug my fridge. I don't really need frozen veggies. I can buy fresh when I want them. Ice cream is bad for me anyways. I don't have to cook so much that I have leftovers. We could totlally make this work.
Why not try downsizing first? I recommend that you trade out the big fridge for a little one that will hold precious and perishable things for bad weather times.
Bad weather means that you won't be able to get fresh food as often as you may like, due to roads being impassable, etc., so you may need to actually stock up during the wintertime or hurricane season.
Additionally, you may want to prepare a few days in advance for large gatherings, which could require a place to put drinks to chill.
If you have to keep it for resale, I would recommend demoting the big refrigerator to the basement, clean it out, and prop the door open a few inches so that the inside doesn't mold. Get a really energy efficient dorm-size fridge for the kitchen so that you can lay down drinks and the few things that need to stay cold.
Hmmmm...it's an interesting thought, but I think the downsizing idea is better. What would you do with condiments, dressings, cheese, yogurt, milk and eggs? Surely you don't want to buy eggs one at a time and milk is a nice thing to have in the house. What about chilling wine and fruit juice?
Most condiments do not need to be refrigerated. I don't buy many dressings, oil and vinegar is good. Cheese is better kept at room temp. Eggs are fine at room temp for at least two weeks, and I know how to test for bad eggs. I can buy six at a time instead of 12. Yogurt existed before refrigeration, so there has to be some way to keep it. And if not, then I buy it when I want it. Don't do a lot of fruit juice either, but I don't mind it warm. Still figuring out the milk and wine. (less the wine since MWH doesn't drink it anyway) Maybe an earthen pot with water in it for cooling.

Also, sugar cookie dough needs refrigeration. ::grin::
