6 March 2006 20:19Alright, here it is...the update that is about three months late.
We arrived back in the US on December 23rd and were met by five people at the airport. That is how loved we are. We stayed with Lori in Baltimore for a while until we found a GREAT apartment in Laurel. Granite countertops. Heater. Air conditioner. Patio. Soaking tub. Washer and dryer in the unit. Covered parking. Clubhouse. Pool. Gym with a side room boasting a composite rubber floor. And a ton more. You can see the floorplan here: http://www.questar.net/comm_concord_fp.html# Look under Sirius, eight down in the left column. Good stuff. Lori will eventually be taking over the second bedroom.
Bart is working at Toby's, CCTA and doing side jobs building and designing at local high schools. He is working his tail off, poor guy. It took me a while to find a job, so fabulous person that he is, he let me help with his touring show with CCTA. I was a child seater and slideshow button poker. I cannot even begin to tell you how nice it was to get out and have something to do besides setting up house. He is looking forward to starting school in the fall, though he hasn't decided exactly where since he has a couple of choices.
Like I said, it took me a little longer to find a job...I started last Wednesday. I am a tech at the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute. I am working on a couple of different proteins that are involved in diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. It's not cancer, but it is still interesting. I bought a black Mini Cooper from CarMax. His name is Dash and is in dire need of racing stripes. He will have them soon, but first I must purchase a new monitor for this computer, which will be significantly more expensive than the racing stripes. This is the first car I have ever had that has seat heaters and I will never not have them again. The seat heater is an amazing invention.
Hmmmm....what else? Furniture! We bought grown-up, non-Ikea furniture! A pair of matching ottomans that have tray-to-cushy-seating flip tops. I painted my dining set a fetching black rubbed off to red and bought some new placemats to match. Curtains in the living room, big floor pillow (I made a big pillowcase for my full-size feather bed from a really cool twin -sized comforter I found at Target), cool faux suede slipcover for the sofa. And new copper pots from Calphalon. I love them, love them, love them. They make the best scrambled eggs ever.
I am sure there is more that I am not thinking of right now since it has been forever since I last posted, but I want to go sit in my soaking tub :) Night!
