Brandie here. (Do you feel better now, Tim?)
Just wanted to make sure that every body knows that we will be moving into our own apartment at the end of the month and will lose internet access at that time. I have no idea how long it will take for us to get a fiber optic line installed to regain access. Yes, I wrote "fiber optic." Jealous? When we do get the line, we are looking into a company called Vonage that offers unlimited calling within the US and Canada for $30 per month and calls to Italy for three cents a minute. This is useful two ways, 1) We will have a US phone number, so calling friends and family is included in the plan, and 2) There is no phone line in the apartment (apparently not uncommon here, odd) so we couldn't use the local phone service unless we had a phone line installed as well. This is the plan for now and is subject to change at any time for any reason.
I had more to say, but Bart came in and we started talking, so now I have completely forgotten what I was going to write. Hmmm. I'll be back later if I can remember.

I've looked at it, but really we don't use our house phone much, and for les than $20 a month, we get our phone though the cable company(digital phone). And that's 3 cents a minute long distance. I'll definately be interested to hear how the Vonage actually works. Of course if you've got a fiber line running into the house... ;)
Damn that Bart, always ruining Livejournal! j/k
I did it!

Date: 24 Jan 2005 20:00 (UTC)How did the meeting go with Brandie's boss?
We miss you both, but are happy to hear that you have found a place to settle into - a year in one appartment will seem like a long time for you after this past couple months! :)
It was so great to get to know you better Brandie and you are a wonderful sister! On the same note, It was great to re-establish a relationship with my brother and get to know him as a married man!
Love you both - take care! Brenda

Date: 27 Jan 2005 10:37 (UTC)Yes we are very excited about having our own place again. All of our hosts have been absolutely wonderful, but it will be nice to have privacy, and actually be able to unpack our stuff! Looks like the chances of staying in our apartment for more than a year has just increaed. The whole issue is that our landlord's own contract in the place he is in ends in December. So he wanted to take over the apartment, that we have rented, for his own. Now however the neighbors next to us, who he also is landlord for, will be moving. So he can take thier place, and we get to keep ours. It is not final yet, but we are hoping that like all things in life, happy thougts and faerie dust will get us through. :-) The next challenge, as Brandie indicated in our last journal post, is maintaining the stipend that we were promised. We have plan b and c standing by in case they have to lower it, but we are really keeping our fingers crossed on this one,to keep it at the original amount. I am sure there is a reason that everything is going the way it is... and honestly we can't complain so far.
Sorry to hear about the shingles. I wish the best for you in pursuing that... seems that since it has happened twice you should get some kind of refund. If you have any faerie dust left over from our ceremony, use that with some happy thoughts!
Love from both of us,
B&B
