Adventures in homemaking

Tomorrow I am going to make butter. I had no idea it was so easy.

Didn't you ever do it in elementary school? We used to pass some sort of container around the class and everyone got to shake it. And at the end, there'd be butter!

No! I feel so left out! A ton of people were commentin gon that blog that they did it in Girl Scouts, too. I didn't do it there either!!

Luckily, I work right above a place that sells fresh cream :)

You should make cheese next. I've always wanted to learn how to make fresh mozzarella. Now that I have my heirloom tomatoes going and a nice basil plant, I'm going to need some for my caprese salad. ;)

I used to make butter last year whenever I'd visit [livejournal.com profile] magickalpony, but without a mixer. Simple, yes. Easy, no :)

Lots of shaking involved! Or churning.

It'd take me about 15 minutes, and her nearly 20.

The idea of "washing" butter scares me, and I'm curious how long homemade butter keeps. I want to hear all about your experiment with it!

I just bought a pint of organic cream! I'll keep you posted :)
