Neat.

UPDATE: I just recieved this in an email from an old friend who knows more about insects than any one person should. - "PS - the dragonfly on your blog is a newly emerged male Libellula lydia (Order: Odanata - Family: Libellulidae). He is probably less than a day old. The color morph (prunescence) you photographed only remains for a few days. Very cool find!"

::smile::

What does your spring schedule look like? Is it worth trying to get together some night?

YES!YES!YES! I am not certain of what Bart's schedule will be at the theater, but I know they are hiring a person to cover him a couple of nights a week soon, so he will have weekends off! Otherwise, he is home every Monday and Tuesday night in April and at least Mondays in May. And we are going up to New York for Memorial Day weekend.

Excellent, dude. Mondays are usually pretty good for me, though CK can't do weeknights without a lot of pre-planning.

We will be hiding at home (and going to the Strawberry festival) for Memorial weekend. Hopefully that weekend will not involve bottle-feeding kittens.

They are nice, although I used to be afraid of them as a kid. I thought they bit.

[identity profile] scherzoid.livejournal.com 2006-04-18 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
They DO bite! But only if you're a dragon.

Hee hee :)

Apparently, he is just a baby, too.

Does the fact that my initial response to the first picture was "Ew, that's a really big bug!" make me too girly/wimpy to hang out with?

Because [livejournal.com profile] mrf_arch and I will be in your neck of the woods from May 12-14. And also, in NY for Memorial Day.

Besides, my response to the 2nd picture was, "Oh cool, it's not a *bug*, it's a *dragonfly*!"

[identity profile] youvebeenpixied.livejournal.com 2006-04-18 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
No worries, it is a big bug! I was amazed that he let me get so close to him. Let me know what time you have free over that weekend and we will have fondue! Or something close to it as I do not own a fondue set.

Awesome photo! I was poking through a large book on Dragonflies just a couple of months ago at my local library and enjoyed the photos of many of the differant species. Though I have to admit, I do not enjoy how they look in their larvae state -eww.:(

Cool photo and that's a neat statue you've got there, too:)
