Further, do I know anybody who knows anybody who lives in Manhattan, the Village or their environs who might be willing to lend a sofa or a floor in case nobody else is interested in this an we can't share a room with anybody?

I have a currently empty apt. in NYC that you could use for crash space. It is in the northernmost tip of Manhattan, so nowhere near the Village. I just need about a week or two advance notice about when you'd be there, so I could get you the keys.
