What I did this past weekend...
or, Why My Quads Still Hurt
On Sunday I ran my first ever 5k, the Shamrock Run in the Inner Harbor. I was pretty excited about the whole thing and pretty out of my element. I do not own a pair of running shoes...or pants...or a properly fitting baseball cap, which is apparently the thing to wear while one is running. My lack of proper gear aside, I did almost exactly how I wanted to do.
I wanted to finish in under 30 minutes. My time, 29 minutes and 10 seconds.
I wanted to not be dead. Still here.
I wanted to finish in the top third. I made the top half.
My stat line:
1629 74/250 32:13 29:10 9:23
I was the 1629th finisher (out of 3321). Number 74 of 250 in my age range. From the time the gun when off to the time I crossed the finish line, 32 minutes and 13 seconds had elapsed. From the time I crossed the start line to the time I crossed the finish line, 29 minutes and 10 seconds had elapsed. I averaged 9 minute and 23 second miles.
I may never do this again, but I did it once and that is more than I could have said on Saturday.
